Matthew O’Connor is a Vancouver-based composer and music designer who in his early career has worked on impactful, award-winning productions across both mediums. He is a songwriter at heart, and has immersed himself in the endless possibilities of interactive storytelling.
Matthew’s composition portfolio includes rogue-like FPS (flower-person-shooter) Bloompunk, heartfelt visual novel Curtain Call, and cozy adventure game Keep Me Posted.
Matthew has worked on several AAA video games with the fantastic team at Lionshead Entertainment, co-composing music on Disney Mirrorverse and working as a music editor on Minecraft Legends. Legends was a Music + Sound Awards Awards finalist in two categories in 2023. Since 2024 Matthew has been working with Lionshead as a music editor and implementer on an unannounced AAA game still in development.
As a film composer, Matthew scored the feature film Good Bad Things. Directed by Shane Stanger, who Matthew met while studying at the University of Southern California’s Master of Music Screen Scoring program. Good Bad Things swept the Unstoppable category at the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival, winning both the Grand Jury & Audience Choice awards. The film can now be found on Apple TV and Prime Video, featuring a magnetic score by Matthew that combines dramatic scoring with popular music.
